Interdisciplinarity

Under the roof of the BGHS are offered the international doctoral programmes in sociology and history of the Department of History and the Faculty of Sociology, which are characterized by an interdisciplinary approach (cf. the electronic course catalogue — eKVV).

Event formats such as the Research Retreat, the Interdisciplinary Seminar and the Interdisciplinary Colloquium offer space for discussions across disciplinary boundaries.

The premises of the BGHS - seminar room, meeting room, offices and last but not least the BGHS Lounge - allow for a continuous interdisciplinary exchange that combines creativity and innovative research.

In this way, BGHS members are encouraged to critically on the categorial decisions, theoretical premises and methods of their disciplines when confronted with those of a different discipline.

Workshops organized by doctoral students, the public lecture series "Linie 4" in cooperation with the vhs Bielefeld and the Interdisciplinary Dialogue, regular panel discussions with doctoral researchers of the BGHS, members of the Faculty of Sociology, the Department of History and guests, complement the program and offer opportunities for interdisciplinary discussions.
